I EAT THAI

It’s the Thai culinary week at the Cinnamon at Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. And here’s some of the major treats they have waiting for you. Amazing ThailandA special thanks to Mia & Malinda from Mandarin Oriental Jakarta for having me on their special culinary week. Tonight (Yes, I just went there couple hours ago) marks the opening the True Thai Flavours – where Chef Sumpachanyanont from Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, will be cooking you the best Thailand dish. (Did I mentioned it’s a buffet?). Here are some of the enticing specialties they have for ya’ So, let’s get right to it, shall we?Salad Som Tam ThaiDish 2 Dish 1I started my night at the salad bar where they have the Som Tam Thai – you can ask them to serve you a spicy, non-spicy, or very spicy salad. I had the spicy one, and it’s delish! Then, you can have their Laab Plamueg – the third photo (Spicy calamari salad with dried chili flake, ground roasted rice, and mint). This salad has a very rich taste and you can’t barely smell the usual fishy aroma from the calamari. The last one, you can hae their Yaam Nuea Yaang A-Ngoon -the last photo(Spicy grilled beef salad with grape and mint). I didn’t have a chance to try this – but I heard it’s delish.
Pad ThaiI then move to the Pad Thai section. Ladies, and gents, I must recommend this very item. It’s SO GOOD! I literally (I apologies for my next few words) – gasp for air when I taste this dish. Seriously, after months of yearning for the taste of Pad Thai that I found in Bangkok, I have finally found the best Pad Thai (Yes, it beats the Pad Thai I found at Bangkok). Once again, A MUST HAVE. However, this section is always overwhelmed by guests, so you better move fast!
Dish 6 Dish 7 Dish 10The main feast lies upon the long buffet table – where the main dishes are served. In this table, I had the chance to try the Khow Hom Mali (Steamed Hom Mali Rice) – the authentic rice of Thailand. You can see the texture and sizes of this rice is much bigger than our rice. But, it’s yummy as a taste of heaven. With the help of the buffet staff, I combined the rice with the Gaeng Khiew Waan Gai (Green Chicken Curry with Eggplant and Thai Sweet Basil) – a must try for chicken lovers, as the chicken is very soft and it has a perfect blend of green curry; Poo Nim Phad Prig Gluea (Stir Fried Soft Shell Crab with Salt, Chili, Crispy Garlic, and Shallot) – this particular dish is everyone’s favourite, and this dish always runs out easily – so make sure you get them before you have to wait for the refills. I also had their Nuea Phad Prig Thai Dum (Fried Beef Tenderloin with Black Pepper Sauce), which makes up a perfect combination on my platter.
Some of the other main courses you can taste are, Pla Raad Prig (Deep Fried Fish with Chili Sauce with  Sweet, Salty Sauce, and Tamarind Flavour), Goong Phad Med Mamuang (Stir fried Prawn with Cashew Nut, and Spring Onion), Tom Yaam Goong (Spicy Prawn Soup with Lemongrass and Straw Mushroom), Peek Gai Thod Khamin Naam Pla (Deep Fried Chicken Wing Marinated with Yellow Tumeric and Fish Sauce), Puu Ja (Deep Fried Herbed Crab Meat and Minced Chicken with Cucumber Relish), and the Prathad Lom (Golden Crispy Prawn Rolls – which are served with their authentic sweet and spicy sauce).
Dish 9And last but not least, at their dessert section, the MUST TRY is their MANGO STICKY RICE! It’s sticky, chewy, sweet, nice, and you’ll want more! A few months ago, when I was in Bangkok, I was unaware of this authentic dessert. But now, I finally found her! And do have this at your last, as it has a very nice after taste. You can also have their Tum Tim Grob (Water Chestnut Rubies in Chilled Coconut Syrup with Crushed Ice), or the Gluay Buad Chee (Stewed Banana in Warm Coconut Milk). So, what are you waiting for? RSVP now – as the place are filling up fast – at IDR 264.000, – NETT PER PERSON. Simply call Cinnamon at +62 (21) 2993 8823. Psst. Also, get a chance to win a free holiday trip to Mandarin Oriental Bangkok.
